Manchester United prefer loan move for Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde

Manchester United could make a move to sign Alejandro Balde from Barcelona before the end of the ongoing transfer window. 

According to ESPN, United prefer a season-long loan deal with an option to make the move permanent. 

Barcelona value Balde at between €30 million and €40m. 

The Spaniard was instrumental in their success last season. He made 42 appearances across all competitions, helping his club win the La Liga title and the Supercopa de Espana. 

The 22-year-old could struggle for first-team opportunities in 2026-27. 

Joao Cancelo is Hansi Flick’s first-choice left-back, while Xavi Espart can also play in that position. 

Flick wants a face-to-face meeting with Balde before making a decision on his future. 

The Spain international is willing to stay at Camp Nou but wants assurances about his playing prospects this season. 

Balde is a world-class defender who is young and has proven himself at the top level of football. He is renowned for his blistering pace, dribbling skills and ball-carrying ability. 

Man United have been in the market for a new left-back this summer. 

Tyrell Malacia has left on a free transfer, and Patrick Dorgu plays on the left wing. 

Luke Shaw is their first-choice left-back, but the 31-year-old has entered the final year of his contract. 

United view Lewis Hall as an ideal target, but he has entered new contract talks with Newcastle United.
