England off to dream World Cup start as they beat Croatia in six-goal thriller

England got their World Cup off to a dream start, as they outclassed Croatia in a six-goal thriller on Wednesday at the Dallas Stadium. 

The Three Lions are widely regarded as one of the tournament favourites following their historic qualifying campaign of eight wins from eight with no goals conceded. 

England certainly lived up to the hype yesterday by sealing a thrilling 4-2 victory against tricky opponents Croatia, who broke their hearts in the 2018 World Cup semi-finals in Russia. 

Captain Harry Kane put his side ahead in the 12th minute after Luka Modric fouled Noni Madueke. 

The 32-year-old’s first attempt was saved by Dominik Livakovic, but he converted his second after the goalkeeper was penalised for encroaching off his goalline.  

Martin Baturina scored the equaliser before Kane restored England’s lead with a powerful header three minutes before half-time. 

Peter Musa struck seconds before the break to leave the scores level at 2-2. 

However, England came out with renewed purpose and dominated the second-half. 

Jude Bellingham struck with a powerful run and finish after 47 minutes before substitute Marcus Rashford sealed an excellent victory with a composed finish five minutes from time. 

England will now return to action next Tuesday when they take on Ghana at the Boston Stadium in Massachusetts. 

The two teams are currently level on points in Group L, with Ghana winning their match 1-0 against Panama.
