Barcelona agrees to €80m Anthony Gordon’s deal with Newcastle United

La Liga champions Barcelona have agreed to an €80m deal to sign Newcastle United’s winger Anthony Gordon, according to The Athletic.

The Blaugrana made an initial offer of a €70m fixed fee plus add-ons to bring the total package to over €80m, with the England international set to travel this week for a medical.

Barcelona moved swiftly to reach an agreement on personal terms with the 25-year-old and wrap up the deal amid interest from German champions Bayern Munich and Chelsea and Liverpool.

Head coach Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco are understood to be huge admirers of the Englishman, whom they view as an ideal replacement for the role occupied by Marcus Rashford this season.

Rashford spent the 2025/26 season on loan from Manchester United and has enjoyed an impressive campaign, registering 14 goals and 14 assists in 49 appearances for the club.

The Catalan club hold a €30 million option to sign Rashford permanently before June 15, although they are reluctant to trigger the clause and are instead trying to lower the asking price.

Rashford is keen to remain at Barcelona, and the club would be willing to keep both England internationals if another loan agreement can be reached with the Red Devils, as he’s not part of Michael Carrick’s plans at Old Trafford next season.

He said: “I am not a magician, but if I was, I would stay. We will see.

“I came here to win. I want to win as many things as I can. This victory is one more to add to the collection.

“This is a wonderful team; they’re going to win so much in the future; to be a part of that would be special.

“I always had an admiration for Barcelona; they were my second team, so it is a dream to come here and win.”

Across 46 appearances in all competitions this campaign, Gordon has contributed 17 goals and five assists for Newcastle, with 10 goals coming from 12 Champions League matches.

The Englishman has made 156 appearances for the Magpies since joining the club from Everton in January 2023 for an initial fee of £40m.

He was also named in Thomas Tuchel’s 26-man England World Cup squad earlier this month.
