Tottenham Hotspur were held to a 1-1 stalemate in the Premier League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday.
The visitors carved out the game’s first opening just 46 seconds in when Pascal Struijk connected with Daniel James’ delivery, but he headed wide.
Moments later, Joe Rodon thought he had given the Whites the lead after he met James’ cross, but Antonin Kinsky clawed the effort away on the line.
At the other end, Richarlison saw his deflected effort comfortably gathered by Karl Darlow.
In the 36th minute, Joao Palhinha squandered a glorious opportunity to fire Spurs ahead after Leeds failed to deal with the danger, blasting over from close range.
Minutes later, the Lilywhites threatened again when Rodrigo Bentancur rose to meet Pedro Porro’s corner, but his free header drifted wide of the far post.
On the stroke of half-time, Leeds appealed for a spot-kick after Calvert-Lewin went down under Destiny Udogie’s challenge, but the striker had already been flagged offside in the buildup following a VAR review.
Five minutes after the restart, Mathys Tel fired Spurs ahead with a stunning strike from the edge of the box.
Spurs should have doubled their lead shortly after when Randal Kolo Muani teed up Richarlison, but the forward fired over from point-blank range.
Following a VAR review in the 74th minute, the visitors were handed a penalty after Tel caught Ethan Ampadu with a high boot inside the area.
Calvert-Lewin stepped up for the spot-kick and converted beyond Kinsky.
Deep into stoppage time, Sean Longstaff came close to winning it for Leeds after unleashing a powerful effort from distance, only for Kinsky to push it onto the crossbar.
Tottenham Hotspur remain in 17th place following the result, holding a slim two-point cushion over West Ham United in the relegation scrap.
