Thomas Frank sacked by Tottenham after disastrous start to 2026

Tottenham Hotspur have relieved Thomas Frank of his duties as the head coach of the club, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

The 52-year-old suffered the Spurs’ 11th defeat yesterday, losing 2-1 at home to Newcastle United, which plunged the club into a relegation battle.

Spurs are 16th in the Premier League standings, having won none of their last eight league games and just two of their last 17. They are five points above the drop zone.

The Lilywhites opened the year with stalemates against Brentford and Sunderland, before defeats to Bournemouth and West Ham, as well as an FA Cup exit at the hands of Aston Villa, prompting boos for Frank from the supporters.

The North Londoners responded with back-to-back 2-2 Premier League draws against Burnley and Manchester City, either side of Champions League wins, but defeats to Manchester United and Newcastle ensured their winless streak dragged on.

Frank joined Tottenham in June, signing a three-year contract to replace the dismissed Ange Postecoglou.

Postecoglou guided Spurs to their worst Premier League campaign, as they finished 17th on 38 points, having lost 22 of their 38 games.

However, the Australian secured Champions League qualification for the Lilywhites last campaign and won the Europa League, Spurs’ first silverware since 2008.

Despite adding Xavi Simons, Mohammed Kudus, João Palhinha and Randal Kolo Muani to their ranks during the summer window, Tottenham have failed to hit the ground running this season.

This is the first sacking of the post-Daniel Levy chairmanship. He was forced out of the club in September when the majority owners of Spurs’ holding company, ENIC, the Lewis family, the adult children of billionaire Joe Lewis, took control. The day-to-day running of the club was handed over to Venkatesham and Lange.
