MotoGP Season 2026 Preview

Marc Marquez is looking to lead Ducati to another MotoGP title in 2026, but teammate Francesco ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia may have something to say about that.

Marquez won 11 races last season to finish 88 points clear of the chasing pack. Bagnaia’s tally of two victories highlighted the issues he had with adapting to his bike.

However, he has looked more comfortable with this year’s machinery and could give Marquez a run for his money this time around.

MotoGP expert Peter Bom attended a recent test event in Malaysia and noted that the Ducati duo had an extra lever on their bikes that could give them an advantage.

“The end of last year, and now, Marc and Pecco have something on their Ducatis that helps them at the start – something else as the front and the rear right high device,” Bom said.

“I think I have an idea what it is. Something goes to another lever that the other bikes don’t have. Marc and Pecco had one bike with an extra lever. He reached for that lever and then had the perfect start.

“Every time Marc comes for the practice start, he waits for his brother (Alex) to arrive on the right side where everybody’s watching you [in the] pit lane, then he engages it and goes out.”

While the Ducati duo have been widely tipped to dominate this season, the arrival of three-time World Superbike champion Toprak Razgatlioglu adds an intriguing dynamic to MotoGP.

He is one of just three riders alongside Johann Zarco and Diogo Moreira who have contracts in place for 2027, which adds to the pressure across the grid.

Razgatlioglu will be aboard a Yamaha powered by a new V4 engine, which the manufacturer is hoping can fire their riders towards the top of the MotoGP standings.

The bike’s performance will undoubtedly determine whether 2021 champion Fabio Quartararo remains with the team beyond the end of this season.

The return of the MotoGP series to Brazil after a 22-year absence will be an emotional moment for series rookie Diogo Moreira.

The reigning Moto2 world champion will be desperate to put on a good show in front of his home fans by proving he belongs at the top level.
