Under-fire Thomas Frank aims to guide Spurs to a Champions League top-eight finish at Frankfurt

Tottenham Hotspur travel to Germany to face Eintracht Frankfurt at Deutsche Bank Park in the final UEFA Champions League league-phase game on Wednesday night.

Frankfurt fell to a 3-1 defeat to TSG Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga at the weekend. Die Alder were also beaten in their last Champions League outing, as they lost 3-2 at Qarabag FK.

Captain Cristian Romeo salvaged a point at the death for Spurs as they held on to a 2-2 stalemate at relegation-threatened Burnley in the Premier League.

However, Thomas Frank’s side secured a 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund last time out in the Champions League.

Match preview

Tottenham have faced Eintracht Frankfurt on six occasions in major European competition, with Feyenoord (8) being the only opponent they’ve faced more often. They have lost just one of the previous six (W3 D2), while they’re unbeaten in the last four – all of which have been since 2022/23 (W2 D2).

Eintracht Frankfurt have only won one of the seven times they’ve hosted an English side in a major European competition this century (D3 L3), with that lone victory coming against West Ham in the UEFA Europa League in May 2022 (1-0). They have already lost by four goals to an English side at home in this season’s Champions League, suffering a 5-1 defeat versus Liverpool in October.

Die Alder have failed to score in their last two home matches against Tottenham, drawing 0-0 in October 2022 and losing 1-0 in April 2025. This is the only time they have failed to score in consecutive home games against an opponent in major European competition.

The Lilywhites have won their last two Champions League matches and are looking for three wins in a row for the first time since November 2019, while they last won three in a row with a clean sheet each time in April 2019.

Frankfurt have dropped more points from winning positions (9) than any other team in the Champions League this season, including three in their previous outing against Qarabag (3-2 defeat).

Spurs have conceded exactly one goal on average per game this season in the Champions League (7 in 7 games) but have a 71% clean sheet ratio (5 in 7 games). They are the only side in major European history to play 5+ games in a season and have a 70%+ clean sheet rate while conceding at least a goal per game.

Wilson Odobert has been involved in three goals in his last three Champions League starts for Tottenham (1 goal, 2 assists) – the only Spurs players involved in more goals in a season aged 21 or younger are Gareth Bale in 2010/11 (4 goals, 2 assists) and Dele Alli in 2017/18 (2 goals, 4 assists).
