Bodø/Glimt secured a shocking 3-1 victory over Manchester City in the Champions League at the Aspmyra Stadion on Tuesday evening.
The visitors got the game’s first real chance in the sixth minute of the game when Rayan Ait-Nouri found Rayan Cherki, but the Frenchman’s shot at the near post was fended off by the legs of Nikita Haikin, and Nico O’Reilly headed the resulting corner wide.
Moments later, Cherki slipped Erling Haaland in on goal, but the Norwegian’s chipped effort was parried away by Haikin.
In the 22nd minute, the Citizens were punished for their missed chances, and Kasper Hogh gave Bodø the lead after Haaland lost possession and Ole Didrik Blomberg sent in a delightful cross for the striker to head home the opener.
Two minutes later, Hogh doubled his tally and the host’s advantage after Max Alleyne’s clearance was picked up by Jens Petter Hauge, whose cross found Hogh, who then finished past Gianluigi Donnarumma into the top right corner.
On the half-hour mark, Hauge almost scored Bodo’s third, but his effort from an acute angle was saved by Donnarumma.
Shortly after the restart, Tijjani Reijnders could’ve halved the deficit but his long-range effort flew straight into the gloves of Haikin.
In the 50th minute, the host almost got a third after Patrick Berg fired in a ball to the back post for Hakon Evjen, but his effort was saved by the studs of Donnarumma.
However, Bodø had the ball in the back of the net three minutes later, when Evjen found Hogh who chipped Donnarumma, but after a VAR check the goal was ruled out for offside.
Just before the hour mark, Hauge finally got Bodo’s third after he wriggled his way to the edge of the area from midfield and curled home a beauty into the top right corner.
Moments later, Cherki pulled one back for City after his deflected strike nestled into the bottom corner.
In the 62nd minute, Rodri was sent off for receiving two yellow cards in the space of two minutes, both for delaying Bodo’s attacks.
Minutes later, Haugu almost scored a carbon copy of his goal but his long range effort rattled the crossbar.
In the 71st minute, Cherki sent in a cross to the area but Alleyne’s header flew wide as City struggled to create chances.
In the closing stages of the game, Cherki again was the creator, but O’Reilly nodded his effort straight at the goalkeeper, and Bodø/Glimt secured their first three points in the Champions League.
