Manchester City are close to agreeing terms with English defender Marc Guehi and have opened talks with Crystal Palace over a fee, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 25-year-old became a winter target for Pep Guardiola’s side after the Citizens lost both Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol to injuries.
He has been a key first-team player for the Eagles since his arrival from Chelsea in 2021.
Guehi has made 188 appearances in all competitions, scoring 11 goals and providing eight assists during his stay at Selhurst Park.
The England international came close to joining Liverpool on deadline day in the summer of 2025, but Palace blocked the move at the last moment.
The Eagles’ captain has earned 26 England caps, demonstrating his leadership qualities at both club and international levels.
He is a top-class centre-back who combines defensive solidity and passing intelligence.
The 25-year-old has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League. He helped the Eagles win the FA Cup and secured a place in the UEFA Europa Conference League last season.
Palace face Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday, and it is not clear whether Guehi will be in the squad.
The Eagles will need to line up a replacement for Guehi in order to agree to a sale.
However, given the defender has made it clear that he will not sign a new deal with six months left on his contract, this is the club’s final chance to receive a fee for the former Chelsea academy man.
City’s youngster Max Alleyne was recalled from his loan at Championship side Watford, but with John Stones also out injured, Guardiola wants more defensive cover as they look to hang on in the title race with rivals Arsenal.
Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid have also been linked with a move for the England star in recent months.
However, Man City are determined to make him their second signing of the January transfer window following the £65 million arrival of Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo.
