United aim to make statement in Amorim’s absence against the Clarets

Manchester United’s post-Ruben Amorim era will begin on Wednesday as they travel to Turf Moor to take on relegation-threatened Burnley for the 2025/26 Premier League gameweek 21.

Amorim was relieved of his duty as head coach of the club on Monday, with former United midfielder and current Under-18 coach Darren Fletcher to be in charge as interim manager.

Burnley extended their winless run in the Premier League to 11 matches with a 2-0 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion last time out.

The Red Devils battled to a 1-1 draw with Leeds United in their last outing on Sunday.

Match preview

Burnley won their first ever Premier League home game against Man Utd 1-0 in August 2009. However, they’re winless in eight against them since then (D2 L6), scoring just one goal in the process.

Though they’ve lost just two of their 19 Premier League games against Burnley, United are looking to secure the Premier League double over them for just the second time after 2020/21.

Just two of Burnley’s 14 Premier League goals against Man Utd have come in home games (14%), the lowest share of any side to net 10+ against another in the competition.

The Clarets picked up seven points in their first four home Premier League games this season (W2 D1 L1) but have since won just one point in their last six (D1 L5), a 0-0 draw with Everton on MD18.

The Red Devils have lost just two of their last 36 Premier League matches against sides starting the day in the relegation zone (W23 D11), though they’ve only kept one clean sheet in nine games against sides placed 18th or lower under Ruben Amorim.

Burnley remain winless in their last 11 Premier League games (D2 L9), only going longer without a win within a single top-flight season on four previous occasions, most recently from November 2009 to January 2010 (12).

United haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last 15 Premier League away games (28 goals conceded), since a 3-0 win at Leicester in March. They last had a longer run without an away league shutout between September 1977 and April 1978 (17 games).

Manchester United’s Matheus Cunha has scored three goals in his last five Premier League appearances, as many as his previous 20 beforehand. Cunha has nine goal involvements (5 goals, 4 assists) in his last eight league games against newly promoted opponents.
