Wolverhampton Wanderers defeated West Ham United 3-0 at the Molineux to secure their first win of the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The visitors appealed for a penalty inside the opening two minutes, after Freddie Potts appeared to be clipped inside the area, but referee Peter Bankes waved away the appeals immediately.
Two minutes later, Jhon Arias gave the host the early lead after Hwang Hee-Chan wriggled past his marker and drilled in a low cross for the Colombian to tap home the opener.
Just past the quarter of an hour, the Hammers appealed again for a penalty when Crysencio Summerville went down in the box under the challenge of Yerson Mosquera, but after a VAR review, nothing was given.
In the 28th minute, Wolves were awarded a penalty after a VAR review when Mateus Mané went down in the area under a challenge from Soungoutou Magassa.
Hee-Chan stepped up to take the spot-kick, and he converted calmly beyond Alphonse Areola.
Moments later, Tolu Arokodare could’ve increased the deficit, but Areola produced a great save with his feet to deny the Nigerian’s header.
In the 41st minute, Mané scored the host’s third after he was found by Hugo Bueno at the edge of the area, and the 18-year-old drilled in a low shot, beating Areola at his near post.
Nuno Espirito Santo made two changes at the break, with Tomas Soucek and Ezra Mayers replacing Potts and Magassa. Wolves also brought on André for João Gomes.
Three minutes after the restart, Summerville played in a cross, and captain Jarrod Bowen met it, but his acrobatic effort sailed well over the bar.
At the other end, Areola got down to parry away Hugo Bueno’s effort from range, and Jørgen Strand Larsen blasted over the rebound.
The Hammers pressed late on but couldn’t convert any of their chances, and Wolves secured all three points for the first time this campaign.
