Pep Guardiola’s worry: ‘We created enough to win’

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has expressed his frustration after his team’s goalless draw at Sunderland last night.

The Citizens missed the chance to go back within two points of league leaders Arsenal after they were held to a goalless draw by the Black Cats, who maintained their unbeaten home streak this campaign.

The Manchester side saw a goal chalked off for offside inside the opening six minutes of the game, and Robin Roefs fended off their attack to keep City at bay.

City resumed the break on high but couldn’t break the Black Cats’ organised defensive structure, which brewed the Spaniard’s frustration.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said, “Take the point. The second half was excellent. We missed chances. We could not score in the six-yard box.

“We didn’t do what we talked about in the first half – to break the lines, have the composure to break them – but in general it was a really good game.

“It was better in the second half; the guys did everything. They are a bit heads down, but we have to be heads up because in three days we have a difficult game against Chelsea.

“We created enough chances; we played a good second half. The commitment, the desire, the first half was different.

“We created enough – the two chances from Savinho in the second half, Jeremy, Josko, Phil [Foden] and Erling. We had a lot, but unfortunately we could not do it.”

Manchester City welcome Chelsea to the Etihad on Sunday for their next Premier League fixture and will be keen to get a win against the Blues.
