Brighton agree deal with Borussia Dortmund to re-sign Pascal Groß

Brighton & Hove Albion have reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund for the permanent transfer of midfielder Pascal Groß, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The 34-year-old is scheduled to undergo medicals in the next 48 hours, as his comeback to Amex Stadium is imminent.

He joined Dortmund from Brighton in the summer of 2024, signing a two-year contract until June 2026.

Groß made his first Bundesliga appearance for Hoffenheim on May 2, 2009, playing one minute as a substitute against Wolfsburg aged 17 years and 321 days. He debuted at Bundesliga level for current outfit Borussia Dortmund in the encounter versus Eintracht Frankfurt on August 24, 2024.

The German has made 61 appearances in all competitions, scoring once and providing 16 assists for the Black and Yellows.

The 34-year-old has made 11 Bundesliga appearances this campaign, playing 615 minutes. He has been selected in the starting XI in seven of these appearances across their 15 fixtures and come on as a substitute on four occasions.

He joined newly promoted Premier League side Brighton in the summer of 2017, signing a four-year contract from Ingolstadt following their relegation from the Bundesliga.

Groß made 228 league appearances in total, scoring 30 goals and providing 45 assists for the Seagulls across seven seasons.

He was Brighton’s all-time top scorer in the Premier League with 30 goals until 2025, when he was overtaken by Danny Welbeck.

The 34-year-old was called up to the Germany senior national team for the first time aged 32 in August 2023 and made his debut on 9 September 2023 in a 4-1 friendly defeat against Japan. He was also selected for the German final squad at the UEFA Euro 2024.

Brighton hosts Burnley on January 3rd and will hope to have him ready for the Manchester City clash at the Etihad on January 7th.
