Manchester United defeated Crystal Palace 2-1 at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon.
United could have gotten the lead inside the first minute after Dalot unleashed a long throw deep into the Eagles’ box; De Ligt flicked it to the back post, but Casemiro’s effort from close range was denied by Henderson.
Mateta had his sights on goal minutes later after he skipped past De Ligt, but his shot went wide of the near post.
Casemiro got another chance to give the visitors the lead, but his header from Fernandes’ free kick went off target.
Palace had two chances in quick succession to break the deadlock. Wharton’s strike from the edge of the box is comfortably gathered by Lammens, and Mateta dragged another shot wide after United’s defensive error.
Palace were awarded a penalty in the 36th minute after Yoro tripped Mateta inside the box, and the Frenchman converted from the spot. VAR ruled out the goal, as the Palace striker contacted the ball twice before scoring; the 28-year-old scored the retake to give the host the deserved lead.
Just before the break, Nketiah broke free and ran through on goal after De Ligt’s slip, but the Englishman delayed his shot, and Shaw made a last-ditch tackle to block the striker’s effort.
In the 54th minute, Zirkzee restored parity for the visitors after he beautifully brought down Fernandes’ free-kick with his chest before unleashing a half volley from a tight angle beyond Henderson.
Just past the hour mark, Mount fired the Red Devils ahead after Fernandes teed up with him from an indirect free-kick, and the Englishman unleashed a low shot through the Palace crowd of bodies into the near post.
Mbeumo had two chances to extend the visitors’ lead. The Cameroonian skipped past Richards, but his shot is straight at Henderson. Minutes later, the former Brentford man cut inside before curling his effort wide.
Palace had a late chance to equalise from a free-kick, but Devenny shot straight at the United wall, and the Red Devils secured their first win in five years at Selhurst Park.
