Paris Saint-Germain vs Tottenham Hotspur: Can the defending champions overcome Spurs’ resurgence?

Paris Saint-Germain welcomes Tottenham to the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night in a thrilling Champions League clash.

PSG secured a comfortable 3-0 win over Le Havre at the weekend, but the defending champions tasted their first defeat in the Champions League after they lost 2-1 to Bayern Munich last time out.

Tottenham were battered 4-1 in the North London derby against Arsenal last time out. They cruised to a 4-0 victory over Copenhagen in their last CL outing.

Match preview

Paris Saint-Germain met Tottenham for the very first time in major European competition a little over three months ago in the UEFA Super Cup, winning on a penalty shootout.

The Parisians have lost just one of their last six Champions League home matches against English opposition (four wins, one draw), a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool in the last-16 first leg last season.

Tottenham have lost only two of their last 13 matches against Ligue 1 opponents in European competition (six wins, five draws), with their last away match a goalless draw with Monaco last month.Luis Enrique’s side are joint-top scorers in the Champions League this season, alongside Bayern Munich, having managed 14 goals across their four matches so far.

After conceding the opening goal in only three of their first nine Premier League matches this season, Spurs have now frustratingly done so in each of their last three.

They have recorded an impressive seven clean sheets from their 13 games across the Champions League and Europa League in 2025, the most of any team in major European competition this calendar year.

Spurs are among the five teams still unbeaten in the competition going into Matchday 5 (along with Bayern, Inter, Arsenal and Manchester City), though Thomas Frank’s men are the only side among these to have not won their first four matches (two wins, two draws).
