Chelsea recorded their third straight win in the Premier League as they defeated Burnley 2-0 at Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon.
Enzo Maresca made four changes to the side that won 3-0 against Wolves just before the international break on his 50th Premier League game as the Blues coach.
In the opening 15 minutes, the Blues were sloppy and were tested as Trevoh Chalobah, Andrey Santos and Tosin Adarabioyo made crucial blocks to keep the score level.
Chelsea soon gained control of the game, and Liam Delap had his sights on goal, with Neto and Gittens left frustrated as he skied his effort when they were open for a pass.
Minutes later, Chalobah tested Martin Dubravka from a distance, but his low curling effort was gathered by the goalkeeper.
Just past the half-hour mark, Delap skipped past his man and found Neto on the right, who squared the ball across for Gittens to tap home, but Kyle Walker intercepted and put it behind for a Chelsea corner.
The Blues found the breakthrough in the 37th minute as Marc Cucurella brilliantly brought down Tosin’s long ball, finding Gittens, who sent an inviting cross to the far post for Neto to head home his fourth Premier League goal of the season.
The visitors resumed the break with a blistering counter involving Neto and Enzo Fernandez, who freed up João Pedro, but his strike went wide.
Minutes later, Gittens saw his curling effort deflect for a corner.
Neto almost got his second of the game in the 63rd minute as his fierce shot hit the base of the post following a brilliant move from Chelsea.
With 20 minutes left of play, Zian Flemming blasted over the hosts’ best chance after a floating ball found him in a promising position.
In the 88th minute, Fernandez sealed the victory for the Londoners after Malo Gusto latched onto a loose ball to find Neto, who brilliantly found Marc Guiu. The young Spaniard wriggled past Tuanzebe, cutting back to an onrushing Fernandez to smash into the net.
Chelsea moves up to second in the Premier League standings with a home London derby against Arsenal next for the Blues on Sunday.
