Morocco and Paris Saint-Germain right-back Achraf Hakimi has been named the 2025 African Player of the Year in the men’s category at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) awards on Wednesday night in Rabat, Morocco.
After a successful treble-winning season with PSG, the 27-year-old beat Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen and Egypt’s Mohammed Salah to the award.
The Moroccan captain also won the UEFA Super Cup and Trophée des Champions but lost out on the FIFA Club World Cup to Chelsea in July.
He also helped the Atlas Lions qualify for the 2026 World Cup and is working hard on his recovery to be ready to help Morocco win the Africa Cup on home soil.
Hakimi, who missed out on the top spot in 2023 and 2024, becomes the first Moroccan to win the award since Moustapha Hadji in 1998.
“It’s really an honour for me to win this prestigious trophy,” he said.
“This trophy is not just for me – it is for all the Africans that have dreams.”
“We will do our best to win the Afcon trophy,” Hakimi added. “I’d like to thank my physiotherapists and those that support me in this difficult period.”
