Manchester United in talks with Swedish club over 16-year-old striker transfer

Manchester United are in “concrete negotiations” with Swedish side AIK Fotboll for teenage striker Kevin Filling, according to reports.

The proposed deal, per Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, could see the 16-year-old move to Old Trafford as soon as January.

Manchester United have already brought in plenty of centre-forward options in the summer, such as Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha, so it is interesting that they are in the market for another number nine.

Plettenberg adds that the current valuation of the young striker is around €3million (£2.6m), so it is a relatively low-risk move for Manchester United, given Filling’s potential.

The Sweden U-18 star has already scored twice this season from seven appearances (two starts) for AIK in the country’s top division.

It remains unclear whether he would join the first team right away if he were to join Manchester United, or if he would spend a season or two with the youth team first.

Bear in mind that Filling has only been officially promoted to AIK’s first team at the start of this season, having previously spent last season on loan at lower-division side Enkopings SK.

Manchester United are reportedly not the only horse in the race for Filling, with several Bundesliga clubs said to be interested in the player as well.

That said, Manchester United should be happy with their current striker options, having already generated seven Premier League goals from Sesko, Cunha, and Mbeumo so far this season.
