Matheus Cunha has shared his conversation with fellow Manchester United forwards Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko after he scored his first goal for the club in Saturday’s 4-2 win over Brighton.
Mbeumo might have stolen the limelight with his brace, but it was still a special night for Cunha.
After eight appearances without a goal for Manchester United since joining from Wolves for a reported £62.5million this summer, the versatile forward has finally scored his first goal in red.
It only took him 24 minutes after the start of the game, and he opened the score, curling the ball past Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen from outside the penalty box.
He was understandably ecstatic.
“It is hard to say something now. I have worked so hard for this,” the Brazil international told BBC MOTD after the game.
“This is the club, and this performance needs to be common and normal.
“I feel so good to be part of this. My first goal here at Old Trafford, I dreamed a lot of this, but of course, the win is much more important.”
He then opened up about his light-hearted conversation with Mbeumo and Sesko, who were clearly happy for him to finally be back on the scoresheet again.
“I joked with Bryan [Mbeumo] and [Benjamin] Sesko, I told them I need to have this feeling [scoring],” Cunha explained.
“I felt so anxious to be a part of this, and when I scored, they said, ‘Look you can enjoy it now.’
“All day, the support for my teammates, I feel so good to be part of this.”
This win has helped Manchester United climb to fifth in the Premier League table, and they are now just three points behind first-placed Arsenal, who will play against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Ruben Amorim’s side will now have to shift their attention to next Saturday’s trip to Nottingham Forest for another Premier League clash.
