Chelsea fell to a heartbreaking 2-1 home defeat to newly promoted side Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.
The Blues started on a strong foot as Alejandro Garnacho opened the scoring inside four minutes, netting his first goal for the club.
The Argentine was found by Pedro Neto on the break as the winger drove at his marker to unleash a low shot through the legs of Robin Roefs.
Another half chance for Chelsea was spelt out minutes later as Marc Cucurella looked to get onto the end of a dangerous cross from the right, but Trai Hume did enough to hold off the Spaniard.
Sunderland won a free kick 25 yards from goal, and Enzo Le Fee took it, but his curling effort went just over.
The hosts could’ve doubled their lead through Cucurella, but his shot was blocked from a corner, and the ball fell to Moises Caicedo, who unleashed a volley from distance that deflected wide.
The Black Cats levelled the score 15 minutes later through Wilson Isidor after Bertrand Traore’s shot from a long throw was deflected to his path and he converted from close range.
The game remained evenly balanced for the remainder of the first half, as the game was tied at the break.
Garnacho was denied another from close range as Chelsea were seeking to go ahead just after the break.
Estevao replaced Garnacho minutes later, and he almost gave the hosts the lead as his curling effort was deflected out for a corner.
The Blues struggled to muster a winner as the visitors defended well to fend off the hosts’ attack.
Three minutes into the six minutes of additional time, the Blues found themselves in trouble as Brian Brobbey was released on a counter with a long ball over the top, and he held the ball inside the Blues’ box, fending off Tosin until support arrived in the form of Chemsdine Talbi, who placed a nice finish into the bottom corner to give the visitors all three points.
Sunderland move up to second position on the Premier League standings after their impressive start to the season.
