Roberto Mancini emerges as the top contender to succeed Postecoglou

Nottingham Forest have made an approach with Roberto Mancini to succeed Ange Postecoglou, who had a 39-day reign at City Ground, according to the Telegraph’s Jason Burt.

The Australian was relieved of his duties just 19 minutes after a 3-0 home loss to Chelsea, extending his bad run to eight games without a win since his appointment last month, making him the shortest-serving manager in the Premier League.

Forest spent around £200m on new signings in the summer to build a strong squad capable of challenging on their return to European football but have failed to make an impression this campaign.

Postecoglou’s replacement will be Forest’s third manager this campaign after Nuno Espirito Santo was fired in September.

Mancini has had Premier League experience with Manchester City between 2009 and 2013, leading them to FA Cup glory in 2011 and the PL title a year later.

The Italian has also had spells at Galatasaray, Inter in 2014 and Zenit Petersburg.

The 60-year-old took over the Italian national team in 2018 and led the Azzurri to Euro 2020 glory and failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup before leaving the role in August 2023.

He also managed Saudi Arabia, spending 14 months in charge before leaving in October 2024.

Former Everton and Burnley manager Sean Dyche is also on the shortlist as the hunt for a new manager at City Ground continues.
