Newcastle United are expected to remain without striker Yoane Wissa and two defenders for Saturday’s visit to Brighton, according to reports.
Wissa joined Newcastle on the summer transfer window deadline day on a deal reportedly worth £55m, but has yet to make his debut for the club after sustaining a knee injury when representing DR Congo on international duty.
According to The Daily Mail, the striker will have to wait for weeks, likely until November, before a Newcastle debut is even possible.
The report claims that, contrary to online rumors, Wissa is nursing a posterior cruciate ligament problem, rather than an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
He fortunately does not need to undergo surgery for this, but is expected to wait until the swelling around his knee fully subsides before making a return.
Two defenders still out for Brighton clash
Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe will also have to make plans for the weekend without involving Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento, who are struggling with a hamstring and a knee injury, respectively.
The second scan of Hall’s injury reportedly shows positive signs, but it is said that he will have to remain sidelined until before the November international break.
Livramento, on the other hand, could be out of action until late November after sustaining a knee injury against Arsenal in late September.
“He went to see a specialist, the scan initially looked better than we thought it was,” Howe said about Livramento recently.
“The specialist confirmed it is an eight-week injury, which is a blow for us with the number of games we have in that period. It is a ligament injury, and it will take time to recover.”
On more positive news, Jacob Ramsey could make his return this weekend after recovering from an ankle injury.
The midfielder last featured for Newcastle in the draw with Leeds United in August, and has only featured twice this season, so his return would be a boost to the club.
