Liverpool could be without Ryan Gravenberch for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Manchester United, with the midfielder experiencing hamstring discomfort on international duty.
Gravenberch has proved to be an important piece to Arne Slot’s plans.
He featured in six of Liverpool’s seven league matches since the start of the season, and only missed the season opener against Bournemouth through suspension.
The Netherlands international has also had two goals and two assists in all competitions so far.
It would therefore be quite a blow if he were to miss the upcoming home game against Manchester United this weekend.
The 23-year-old started in both of the Netherlands’ World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Finland. While he played a full 90 minutes against the former, he was substituted off at half-time against the latter on Sunday.
According to the Netherlands head coach, Ronald Koeman, it was only a minor issue.
“Ryan indicated he was experiencing some minor hamstring discomfort,” Koeman said in his post-match press conference.
“We obviously didn’t take any risks with that.”
According to The Athletic, Gravenberch will assess the hamstring issue before making a decision whether he will be available for Manchester United’s visit to Anfield on Sunday.
Liverpool are also dealing with other injury problems ahead of this game.
Goalkeeper Alisson is certainly out of this game due to a hamstring injury he sustained in the Champions League defeat to Galatasaray.
Wataru Endo and Ibrahim Konate recently withdrew from international duty due to injury issues as well.
Endo, in particular, would be one of the replacement options in midfield for Gravenberch if he were available.
The other obvious choice would be Curtis Jones, who already made six league appearances this season, five of them being from the bench.
