Carlo Ancelotti has commented on Manchester United striker Matheus Cunha’s performance in Brazil’s 5-0 win over South Korea on Friday.
It was such a dominating win for the visitors at Seoul World Cup Stadium.
Brazil grabbed the lead after just 13 minutes and scored their fifth goal with 13 minutes still left to play in the game.
Cunha, who started as a number nine in the game, played for 80 minutes and made the assist for Vinicius’ goal in the 77th minute.
The 26-year-old did not score and only made one shot in the game, but Brazil head coach Ancelotti was clearly impressed by the striker’s display.
“Cunha as a striker helps a lot with passing,” the former Real Madrid boss said after the game, as quoted by UOL Sport.
“Because he is very mobile and does not fix his position for the opposing defenders.
“Today, the opposing team put a lot of pressure on the defenders; Cunha’s position was very important.”
While Cunha did not get on the score sheet, as Ancelotti pointed out, his movements proved crucial for Brazil in the game.
In addition to that, his playmaking was good, too, having created three chances for his teammate, including the assist for Vinicius.
This is similar to his recent performances for Manchester United as well.
While Manchester United look sharper up front with him on the pitch, he is yet to score for the club since joining this summer.
It also remains unclear whether Cunha can keep his spot as the starting striker for Brazil at this point, considering Ancelotti still has plenty of options at his disposal, such as Richarlison and Igor Jesus.
Cunha will fly with the Brazil squad to Japan for another friendly on Tuesday, before heading back to Manchester United to prepare for the big trip to Liverpool’s Anfield on October 19.
