Mason Mount has had his say on Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens’ performance in Saturday’s 2-0win over Sunderland.
Mount and Benjamin Sesko scored a goal apiece to ease the pressure on Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim, whose future at the club looked uncertain after last week’s defeat to Brighton.
The two early goals secured the win, but Lammens’ heroic performance in helping the hosts keep their first clean sheet of the season took the limelight.
It was the 23-year-old shot-stopper’s first appearance for the club, too, since joining from Royal Antwerp this summer, which makes it even more impressive, as pointed out by Mount.
“It’s important in the Premier League keeping clean sheets,” the England international told BBC Sport after the game.
“You have chances to score, and then to keep the clean sheet in the second half was so important.
“He (Lammens) was solid. When we were under pressure, the option was Ben (Sesko) and we worked off that.
“Buzzing for him, everyone was around him today, it can be tough making your first start. We want to be together, and I felt that today, so we keep moving forward.”
Lammens made three saves in the game, including two from inside the penalty area.
This performance will certainly help his case in the competition for the number one goalkeeper spot with Altay Bayindir, who started in Manchester United’s previous six league fixtures.
With this win, Manchester United have climbed up to ninth in the league table with 10 points.
The win is a much-needed boost of confidence, considering that after the upcoming international break, Amorim’s men will visit Liverpool’s Anfield on October 19.
