Garnacho makes Manchester United admission after Chelsea’s win vs Benfica

Alejandro Garnacho has opened up about his last days at Manchester United as he celebrated his first Champions League win with Chelsea on Tuesday.

Garnacho joined Chelsea back in August for a reported £40million fee.

The move was rather expected after the 21-year-old was left out of the pre-season by Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim.

Garnacho held no grudges over the harsh treatment and insisted that he is happy to move on to a new chapter of his career in West London.

“I think it was a difficult moment there, just training alone,” the Argentina international told TNT Sports after the win over Benfica.

“But I have nothing bad to say about my old club, Manchester United.

“It’s just bad moments in life.

“Now I’m very happy playing in this competition (the Champions League) and for the three points today.”

Garnacho played a huge part in Chelsea’s 1-0 Champions League win over Benfica, with his movement and cutback resulting in Richard Rios’ own goal.

It was only his second start for Chelsea and his first appearance in blue at Stamford Bridge.

He is yet to cement his spot as a regular starter under Enzo Maresca, but given his strong performance against Benfica, it is likely that the winger will keep his spot in the starting line-up against Liverpool on Saturday.

Meanwhile, at Manchester United, Amorim remains adamant on playing a 3-4-2-1 system with two number 10s behind a striker.

It is easy to see why Amorim allowed Garnacho to leave, since in this system, the winger would have either had to play more centrally or as a wing-back, which is far from ideal.

It is different at Chelsea, where Maresca prefers a 4-2-3-1 formation that allows Garnacho to thrive as a left winger.
