West Ham United part ways with Graham Potter

West Ham United have relieved Graham Potter of his duties as the head coach of the club, the club’s official website confirms.

The Englishman took over the London club from Spaniard Julen Lopetegui, who was dismissed in January after six months in charge, leaving the Hammers 14th in the table.

The former Chelsea boss suffered five defeats in six league and cup games this campaign, and they currently sit 19th in the Premier League.

Potter’s side have lost three of their opening five matches this season, including a 3-0 loss to rivals Tottenham and a 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace in what would be his final match in charge of the club.

The Hammers have lost their opening three home league games for the second consecutive season, the first time they have done so in 98 seasons in English football.

The official statement reads: “Results and performances over the course of the second half of last season and the start of the 2025/26 season have not matched expectations, and the Board of Directors believe that a change is necessary in order to help improve the team’s position in the Premier League as soon as possible.

“The Club can confirm that Assistant Coach Bruno Saltor, First Team Coaches Billy Reid and Narcis Pelach, Lead Goalkeeper Coach Casper Ankergren, and Goalkeeper Coach Linus Kandolin have also left with immediate effect.

“The Board would like to thank Graham and his coaching staff for their hard work during their time with the Hammers and wish them every success for the future.

“The process of appointing a replacement is underway. The Club will be making no further comment at this time.”

Potter is the ninth manager dismissed in the 15 years since the current ownership took charge. There were only 11 managers in the 110 years before that.

The hunt to get a new manager is on, with former Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo leading the race.

The East Londoners’ next Premier League game is a trip to Merseyside to take on the Hammers’ former boss David Moyes’ Everton on Monday night.
