William Saliba commits future to Arsenal with contract extension

William Saliba has agreed to a new five-year contract with the Gunners, according to The Athletic.

With only 18 months left on his contract, Arsenal were quick to fend off interest from other clubs, with Real Madrid also gaining interest in the French defender.

There has been speculation about the Frenchman’s future in North London, with talks over an extension first beginning in May, and in July, Saliba confirmed his interest in pledging his future to Arsenal.

However, the deal is expected to be formalised in the coming days, as Arsenal have been confident about retaining the defender.

Saliba joined Arsenal in July 2019 for a reported fee of around £27 million from AS Saint-Étienne.

He has since then made 139 appearances for the Gunners, becoming one of the best centre backs in the world.

The 24-year-old was instrumental for the Gunner’s last season as the North London side finished second in the Premier League and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.

The contract extension will be a big boost for Arsenal as they are poised to compete for the Premier League and Champions League titles this campaign.
