Daniel Levy steps down as Executive Chairman of Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur have announced today that Daniel Levy has stepped down from his role as executive chairman after over two decades at the club.

The 63-year-old, who suffered criticism and a number of protests against his leadership of the club, spoke about his time at the club.

In a statement Levy said, “I am incredibly proud of the work I have done together with the executive team and all our employees.”

“We have built this club into a global heavyweight competing at the highest level. More than that, we have built a community. I was lucky enough to work with some of the greatest people in this sport, from the team at Lilywhite House and Hotspur Way to all the players and managers over the years.”

“I wish to thank all the fans that have supported me over the years. It hasn’t always been an easy journey, but significant progress has been made. I will continue to support this club passionately.”

Tottenham outlined the arrival of Vinai Venkatesham as Chief Executive Officer, Thomas Frank as the new men’s head coach and Martin Ho as the women’s head coach. Peter Charrington also joins the board as he steps into the role of Non-Executive Chairman in the wake of Levy’s departure.

During Levy’s time at North London, the club enjoyed regular European qualification and won two trophies during his era, the 2008 League Cup and last season’s Europa League triumph.

He also played a key role in Tottenham’s moves into their new training ground and building of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Levy negotiated the then-world-record £86 million transfer of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid in 2013 and forged a reputation as one of football’s toughest negotiators.

Spurs have also confirmed that there will be no changes to the ownership or shareholder structure of the club.
