Former Tottenham Hotspur coach Ange Postecoglou has emerged as a top candidate for the managerial post for Bayer Leverkusen and Fenerbahçe, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Australian is keen to get back into management after being sacked by Tottenham Hotspur at the end of last season.
He was sacked at Tottenham after he finished 17th in the Premier League, making it Spurs’ worst-ever Premier League finish, one spot above the relegation zone, with the club accumulating their most defeats and lowest-ever points tally in a single Premier League season.
The 60-year-old ended Spurs’ 17-year trophy drought after he won the 2025 Europa League Final against Manchester United.
Tottenham had not lifted a trophy since February 2008, when they defeated Chelsea in the League Cup final.
Despite this feat, Tottenham’s chairman Daniel Levy relieved Postecoglou of his duties as the North London club coach on 6 June, exactly two years since his appointment.
The Australian was bound for a Premier League return when he was linked with Nottingham Forest after manager Nuno Espirito Santo faced an uncertain future due to strained relations with the club, but Postecoglou did not favour a return to the Premier League.
Dutch manager Erik ten Hag was appointed head coach of Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen, signing a contract through 2027, succeeding Xabi Alonso, who left for Real Madrid.
On 1 September 2025, Ten Hag was sacked by Bayer Leverkusen after two Bundesliga games and three total competitive games in charge, setting a new record for the fewest league matches in charge before being dismissed in Germany.
Experienced manager José Mourinho was also relieved of his duties at Fenerbahçe after he failed to qualify for the 2025/26 Champions League league phase when he lost to Benfica in the CL play-off round.
With both managerial terms vacant, Postecoglou will decide a suitable club for him to manage.
