Manchester United have reached total agreement with Royal Antwerp to sign goalkeeper Senne Lammens for a deal worth £18.2m plus add-ons, according to The Athletic.
Lammens progressed through the youth ranks at Club Brugge but made just four professional appearances for the Belgian giants.
The 23-year-old departed on a free transfer for Royal Antwerp two summers ago, signing a four-year contract at the club.
The Belgian goalkeeper has kept 12 clean sheets for Royal Antwerp in 64 senior appearances.
He kept 10 clean sheets in 44 appearances during the 2024/25 season and an additional 2 clean sheets in 20 senior appearances in the 2023/24 season.
Lammens has been identified as the main candidate to challenge Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir after inconsistent spells from the pair under Amorim.
The Red Devils want to strengthen their goalkeeping unit to avoid repeating costly mistakes from last season and so far this season.
Speaking after the 3-2 win against Burnley last time out, manager Ruben Amorim defended his keepers, insisting it’s hard to be a goalkeeper in this current United side. “Guys, they are humans,” said Amorim.
“Manchester United, everything is in use. Everybody talks about the goalkeeper. And you can see, I can change the goalkeeper in the situations that happen.”
“We are in that moment. I think it is hard to be a Manchester United goalkeeper in this moment. But if you look at the first goal, we can defend it better. We suffered a quite similar goal against Fulham, because we don’t do the full rotation of the team when the ball is on the other side.”
The Red Devils were linked to Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, and personal terms were agreed with the World Cup winner, but a move could not materialise.
United travel to the Etihad to take on their rivals Manchester City in the Manchester derby in their next match; Lammens could make his debut in the match.
