Newcastle United are closing in on a deal to sign Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart for a club-record £64 million fee, according to Sky Sport DE.
The Magpies have agreed to pay £60m up front plus £4m in add-ons.
The deal surpasses the £63m Newcastle paid for Alexander Isak three years ago from Real Sociedad.
Newcastle are set to sign Woltemade ahead of Bayern Munich, who had multiple offers rejected for the forward this summer. He has a desire to work with Eddie Howe and play in the Premier League.
It means Woltemade would become the Magpies’ record signing, having eclipsed the £63m they forked out to sign Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2022.
The Premier League side gained interest in Woltemade after failing to agree deals for Yoane Wissa and Jorgen Strand Larsen.
Both Brentford and Wolves have rejected multiple bids from the Toon Army for Wissa and Strand Larsen, respectively.
This move could pave the way for Alexander Isak’s transfer to Liverpool after the Premier League champions saw their £110m bid rejected for the striker earlier this summer.
Ahead of the 2024/25 season, Woltemade moved to VfB Stuttgart and signed a four-year contract with the club.
He ended his first season with 17 goals scored in all competitions, including a goal in the DFB-Pokal final, which his side won.
On 22 May 2025, Woltemade received his first call-up to the Germany national team for the Nations League Finals. On 4 June, he debuted in the semi-final against Portugal.
Woltemade was included in the Germany squad at the 2025 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, scoring a hat-trick in Germany’s 3–0 group victory against Slovenia.
The 23-year-old scored his fourth goal of the tournament in a 4–2 victory against the Czech Republic, as Germany confirmed their progression to the knockout stage of the competition, where they suffered a 3-2 defeat to England in extra time in the final.
The Magpies travel to Elland Road to take on newly promoted side Leeds United in their next Premier League match on Saturday.
