Arsenal demolishes Leeds United 5-0 in a thrilling encounter at the Emirates.
The Gunners presented new signing Eberechi Eze, who joined the club for a deal worth £67.5 million, to the Emirates before their match.
In the early stages of the game, both teams were evenly matched, with Arsenal having the better chances.
34 minutes into the game, Timber heads home a Declan Rice corner into the bottom corner with Perri left rooted to the spot, giving the Gunners a well-deserved lead.
Odegaard struggled with a shoulder injury, wanting to continue, but Mikel Arteta was not taking any risks early in the season, bringing the Arsenal skipper off for Ethan Nwaneri to replace him.
Arsenal doubled their advantage right on the stroke of half-time when Gruev dispossessed Nwaneri on the edge of the box, but the Gunners won it straight back, and Timber turned the provider this time, playing Saka in behind.
Rather than cutting back onto his left foot, Arsenal’s number seven smashes a right-foot strike into the roof of the net beyond Perri and into the far corner, making it 2-0 to put the hosts in complete control.
Three minutes into the second half, Calafiori’s first-time ball in behind is brought down by Gyokeres, who dribbles past two defenders and lashes a low, right-footed strike through the crowd and into the bottom corner to make it 3-0, scoring his first Premier League goal.
Bukayo Saka also suffered an injury, and he was taken off, with Leandro Trossard replacing him.
Minutes later, Timber got the fourth for the Gunners and his second of the night.
Another Rice corner yields another Arsenal goal as Leeds failed to clear their lines with Timber’s initial header, and the Dutchman is there again to slot the ball home.
Max Dowman (15y 235d) comes on for Noni Madueke to make his professional debut for the Gunners, making him the second youngest debutant in a Premier League game behind teammate, Nwaneri (15y 181d).
In the third minute of additional time, Dowman was brought down in the box, and after a VAR review, a penalty was given.
Gyokeres got his second of the night, sending Perri the wrong way to seal the victory for the Gunners.
