Fenerbahçe open talks with West Ham to sign Edson Álvarez

Fenerbahçe have approached West Ham United for midfielder Edson Álvarez, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Talks between the Turkish giants and the Hammers are still at an early stage. Initial contacts have been made, but nothing is finalised yet. Two other European clubs are also said to be exploring a move for Álvarez.

José Mourinho is keen on having the midfielder at Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium as they continue their Süper Lig campaign.

Álvarez joined West Ham in the summer of 2023 from Ajax for a fee of £35 million.

He has since then made 73 appearances and recorded two goals and three assists for the Hammers.

The Londoners finished 14th last season in the Premier League and will hope to improve this campaign, so releasing Álvarez this summer will be difficult without an important fee.

The departure of important players from West Ham this summer has affected their side, as they lost to newly promoted side Sunderland on opening day.

The addition of the Mexican will be a big boost for “The Special One’s” side, as they finished 2nd with 84 points, losing out on the title to Galatasaray, who won the title with 95 points.

The 27-year-old’s work rate and strong defensive qualities have caught the attention of many suitors this summer.

Fenerbahçe have made seven signings this summer, with Jhon Durán joining on loan from Al Nassr as they contest for the Turkish title.

West Ham host world champions Chelsea on Friday in their next PL match, and Alvarez will be decisive for the Hammers in the midfield.
