Preview: Paris Saint-Germain vs Tottenham Hotspur – Prediction, Team News, Line-ups

European football’s annual clash of champions will see Tottenham Hotspur take on Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup at the Stadio Friuli in Italy on Wednesday. 

Spurs outclassed Manchester United in the Europa League final, while PSG lifted their maiden Champions League trophy by destroying Inter Milan in the showpiece game in Munich. 

Match Preview 

PSG enjoyed a dominant 2024-25 campaign under Luis Enrique, as they became the eighth team to win the treble since the European Cup was rebranded as the Champions League in 1991. 

The French giants also performed well in the FIFA Club World Cup, beating Inter Miami, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid on their way to making the final. But they ultimately lost 3-0 to Chelsea following a first-half brace from Cole Palmer. 

PSG will be eager to assert their European dominance once again by winning the Super Cup – the first piece of continental silverware of the new season. The live streams for this match will likely be high in demand.

On the other hand, Tottenham produced a brilliant display in Spain to end their trophy drought, beating Man Utd 1-0 in the Europa League final.  

But European success couldn’t save Ange Postecoglou’s job as the Lilywhites decided to replace him with Thomas Frank. 

Under Frank, the Premier League outfit have had a mixed pre-season. They outclassed fierce rivals Arsenal in Hong Kong before playing out a draw with Newcastle United. 

Spurs’ most recent fixture saw them demolished 4-0 by Bayern Munich, but the results of those games don’t matter much as the serious business begins in Udine this Wednesday. 

Team News 

The good news for PSG is that they don’t have any injury issues this week. Enrique is not expected to make many changes to the team that lost to Chelsea last time. 

As for Tottenham, they will be missing the services of key midfielder James Maddison who picked an ACL injury against Newcastle. Meanwhile, Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski have also been ruled out of the important clash due to fitness issues.

Tottenham have added some exciting players to the squad this summer, but the absence of their three key stars will be a huge blow for them. 

PSG lost the Club World Cup final to Chelsea, but given their quality in attack, we think they will prevail against Spurs on Wednesday.
