Manchester United flop Antony set to join Real Betis on loan

Manchester United flop Antony is finally set to end his Old Trafford nightmare by leaving the club on loan this month.

According to reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils have reached a verbal agreement with Real Betis over a loan transfer for the Brazilian.

United will cover a significant portion of the 24-year-old’s current wages, and the loan deal doesn’t include an option to buy at the end of the campaign.

Antony joined the Premier League giants in the summer of 2022 for a fee worth up to £86 million.

But he completely failed to justify his enormous price tag with his performances for the club.

In 96 appearances across all competitions, the right winger has registered only 12 goals and five assists.

Ruben Amorim gave him opportunities to shine as a substitute after taking over from Erik ten Hag, but the Brazil international has failed to show any real progress.

United have now sanctioned a temporary exit, hoping the forward regains his best form in Spain, and thus boost his market value.

More departures expected

Amorim has endured a difficult start to life at Manchester United, winning five and losing seven of his 15 matches in charge.

Sunday’s home clash with Brighton & Hove Albion, which was available to watch via Premier League streams, saw them losing 3-1 after Yankubah Minteh, Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter all got on the scoresheet.

The Portuguese boss will look to rebuild his squad by moving underperforming players who are currently earning big wages at the club.

Antony is now on the verge of leaving, while Casemiro has also been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.

There are also speculations over Alejandro Garnacho’s future at Old Trafford, but Marcus Rashford looks to be the most likely player to leave after Antony.

The England international has publicly said he wants a new challenge elsewhere, and Amorim has axed him from the squad.

Serie A giants AC Milan have a loan interest in Rashford, but recently it is Borussia Dortmund who look to be in pole position to acquire the 27-year-old’s services.
