Premier League clubs return to action this weekend as Manchester City and Chelsea face off in an exciting Saturday evening fixture at the Etihad Stadium.
The Citizens are currently just two points behind Liverpool in the league table, while their London opponents are languishing in 10th at the moment.
Match Preview
Manchester City claimed a continental treble last season by winning the Premier League, Champions League and the FA Cup.
Pulling off such an incredible feat again looks very improbable but Pep Guardiola’s side are currently in contention for all the three trophies.
They most recently defeated Copenhagen 3-1 in the away leg of their Champions League last 16 tie, thanks to goals from Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden.
City will now turn their attention to the Premier League where they are in a fierce title race with Liverpool and Arsenal.
They will welcome Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, three months after the two sides played out a riveting 4-4 draw in West London.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino relieved some pressure off him after guiding his team to a 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace last time out.
The Blues were trailing 1-0 at the break after Jefferson Lerma’s strike, but Conor Gallagher scored a brace before Enzo Fernandez capped off a brilliant comeback victory with an injury-time goal.
Despite the win, question marks remain regarding Pochettino’s ability to transform the club’s fortunes.
The Argentine boss arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer but the Blues are languishing in 10th with just 34 points from 24 matches.
Team News
Manchester City have a few injury woes this weekend as Josko Gvardiol has been ruled out for two to three weeks with an ankle ligament injury. Meanwhile, the availability of Mateo Kovacic, Jack Grealish and Sergio Gomez are also doubtful.
As for Chelsea, several players are currently in the infirmary, including Benoit Badiashile, Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella, Romeo Lavia, Reece James, Lesley Ugochukwu and Robert Sanchez.
