Preview: Everton vs Arsenal – prediction, team news, line-ups

Everton face a tough Premier League fixture this weekend as they take on Arsenal at Goodison Park.

The Toffees have made a disappointing start to the new campaign, losing three of their four matches to be in the relegation zone.

However, they picked up their first point of the season in a 2-2 stalemate with Sheffield United before the international break.

Abdoulaye Doucoure put the Merseyside club ahead in the 14th minute, but their lead didn’t last long with Cameron Archer smashing a brilliant equaliser.

The Blades doubled their advantage just before half-time, with goalkeeper Jordan Pickford scoring an unfortunate own-goal.

However, the visitors made a good comeback after the interval as Arnaut Danjuma found the nets after a brilliant cross from Nathan Patterson.

Sheffield would still have claimed full points from the home encounter if not for the astonishing double save from Pickford right at the death that ensured the spoils were shared.

Everton have barely managed to secure Premier League survival in the last two seasons.

But their situation doesn’t look to have improved this campaign either. Lack of transfer activity in the summer hasn’t helped their cause as they look deficient in several areas.

They now face a tricky home fixture against Arsenal, who have made a superb start to the 2023-24 season.

The Gunners claimed full points at the expense of Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace before they were held to a 2-2 draw against Fulham

However, they bounced back with a huge 3-1 victory over Manchester United at the beginning of this month.

Goals from Marcus Rashford and Martin Odegaard left the scores level on 1-1 before the break in the Emirates Stadium encounter.

In the second-half, Kai Havertz penalty was overturned before Alejandro Garnacho found the nets only to have his goal ruled out for offside after a VAR check.

But as the clock ticked down in added time, Declan Rice popped with a decisive goal before Gabriel Jesus added another to cap off a superb 3-1 success.

Team News

The Toffees boss Sean Dyche is dealing with several injury problems this weekend. Dele Alli, Seamus Coleman and Jack Harrison are all recovering from their respective injuries and will sit out the Premier League fixture at Goodison.

Meanwhile, the availability of Michael Keane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin is also uncertain for Sunday’s encounter in latest Everton news

As for Arsenal, only Jurrien Timber and Thomas Partey will be missing due to groin and ACL injuries. Mohamed Elneny has returned to training after his lengthy recovery from a knee operation.
