Preview: Manchester City vs Arsenal – prediction, team news, line-ups

Manchester City will host Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night in what is being regarded as a potential title decider.

City’s top priority will be to lift the Champions League this season but they are also hot favourites to pip the Gunners to the Premier League title.

They have hit an impressive run of form at the perfect time as they are now unbeaten in all competitions since the 1-0 loss at Tottenham Hotspur in February.

Pep Guardiola’s men were at the top of their game on Saturday as they eased past Sheffield United 3-0 in the FA Cup semi-final

Riyad Mahrez single-handedly destroyed the Blades at Wembley, scoring all three goals to send his side to the final where they will face Manchester United.

Now all their focus will turn to the Premier League where they have a chance to take control of the title race by beating Arsenal this week.

The Gunners are showing signs of title nerves as they have failed to pick up full points in their previous three league encounters.

Following disappointing draws at Liverpool and West Ham United, Mikel Arteta’s men also dropped points in the home encounter against Southampton at the weekend.

A disastrous start to the game saw them conceding two goals within the first 14 minutes.

Gabriel Martinelli pulled one back soon but Duje Caleta-Car restored the Saints’ two-goal lead in the second half.

Late goals from Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka ultimately rescued a point but the stalemate left the Londoners’ lead to only five points at the top, despite having played two extra matches than City.

Now they must beat the Citizens on Wednesday if they still desire to lift the league trophy this season.

Team News

City boss Pep Guardiola has only a few injury woes this week, with Nathan Ake likely to be their only absentee for the Etihad Stadium encounter. The defender sustained a hamstring injury during the Champions League quarter-final second-leg against Bayern Munich.

The same thing cannot be said for the Gunners who will be missing a key player in William Saliba as he continues to make slow progress in his recovery from a back injury in latest Arsenal news

Meanwhile, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Mohamed Elneny will also be unavailable on Wednesday as they are nursing knee surgeries at the moment.

Manchester City vs Arsenal prediction

Arsenal are wobbling in pursuit of their first league crown for 19 years. Confidence is unlikely to be very high in their camp as they head to Manchester hoping to come away with a big victory.

However, considering the form of the two sides, we believe that City are more likely to win their home encounter on Wednesday.
