Preview: West Ham United vs Arsenal – prediction, team news, line-ups

Two London sides with very different ambitions for the remainder of the season will lock horns on Sunday as West Ham United welcome Arsenal to the London Stadium.

The Hammers will enter the Premier League match on the back of a 1-1 draw at Gent in the first-leg of their Europa Conference League quarter final.

The English side broke the deadlock in injury time of the first-half but Hugo Cuypers restored parity after the restart to ensure the spoils of the game were shared.

The Irons now turn their attention to the Premier League where they are fighting to maintain their top-flight status for next season.

David Moyes came under huge pressure after Newcastle United’s stunning 5-1 win at the London Stadium.

However, the Scottish boss relieved some pressure by masterminding a 1-0 success over Fulham last Saturday.

Harrison Reed’s own-goal proved decisive as they held out for an impressive victory at Craven Cottage.

Their latest triumph leaves West Ham 14th in the standings but only three points are separating them from the drop zone.

On the other hand, Arsenal suffered a disappointing 2-2 draw at Liverpool on Sunday in a blow to their title aspirations.

The Gunners made a spectacular start to the Anfield game and found themselves two goals ahead after strikes from Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus.

But Mohamed Salah pulled one back before the break, and the next half saw the Reds fighting with a new spirit.

Their dominating display was ultimately rewarded as Roberto Firmino headed home the equaliser after 87 minutes.

The hosts would have scored more if not for the brilliance of Aaron Ramsdale between the sticks.

In the end, it felt more like a point gained than a point lost for Arsenal who saw their lead cut to six points at the top with Manchester City winning 4-1 at Southampton.

Team News

West Ham don’t have a lot of injury woes this week, with Gianluca Scamacca their only absentee for Sunday’s clash.

Manager David Moyes made a number of changes for the Europa Conference League match at Gent, featuring some of his fringe players. But the Scottish boss is likely to restore his best XI for the important home encounter against the Gunners.

As for their Sunday’s opponents, William Saliba will sit out the game as he tries to recover from a back issue in top Arsenal news

Takehiro Tomiyasu and Mohamed Elneny will also not be available as the pair remain on the road to recovery from knee surgeries.

West Ham United vs Arsenal prediction

West Ham have been far from convincing under David Moyes this season. The Hammers picked up a 1-0 win over Fulham last weekend, but they are still fighting for survival in the Premier League.

The home side will likely provide a tough contest at the London Stadium on Sunday, but we would be very surprised if Arsenal don’t come away with full points in the end.
