Atletico Mineiro confirm permanent signing of Chelsea attacker
Atletico Mineiro have confirmed that they have secured the permanent signing of Nathan from Premier League side Chelsea.
The 24-year-old joined the west London giants from Atletico Paranaense five years ago, but he failed to make a single competitive appearance during his time at the club.
After loan stints at Vitesse, Amiens and Belenenses respectively, Nathan made the temporary move to Mineiro in the summer of 2018 where he has spent the past two years.
Nathan’s loan contract with Mineiro had expired on June 20, but he continued to train with the Belo Horizonte side as both the club and his representatives were confident over a permanent deal.
Initially, they were put off by the Blues’ €6.5m valuation for the player which accounted to 13 percent of their previous year’s revenue and the possibility of another loan deal was discussed.
However, the Brazilian outfit managed to do better to negotiate a reduced €3m fee for the permanent transfer of the forward. He has now signed a four-year contract with them.
Nathan is capable of operating anywhere in the attack, but he has found most of his success in his career while featuring in the left-wing position – 14 goals and three assists from 53 outings.
Over the past two years, he has been in-and-out of the matchday squad for Mineiro where he has made 35 appearances, but he should get more opportunities to impress, now that he has secured a permanent move.
