Brazilian star rules out return to Fluminense

Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva has indicated that he has no plans of returning to Fluminense when the current season reaches its conclusion.

The Brazil international has been with Les Parisiens for nearly eight years, but it has been reported that his contract won’t be extended beyond the club’s Champions League campaign in August.

He has been fancied to make a possible move to the Premier League with interest from the likes of Arsenal, Everton and Newcastle United while former club AC Milan have also been linked with his signature.

There have also been suggestions that Silva may consider a comeback with Fluminense in the Brazilian Serie A, but the 35-year-old has ruled out the prospect by citing that he still has goals to reach in Europe.

“Everyone knows the affection I have for Fluminense. They opened their doors to me when I suffered from tuberculosis. I am eternally grateful for this, but I still have goals to reach in Europe,” He told.

Silva will turn 36 at the beginning of next season but he continues to be regarded as one of the most consistent centre-backs playing in Europe at the moment.

A return to Milan should be a tempting option for the experienced defender, but a reunion with manager Carlo Ancelotti at Everton can’t also be ruled out for next season.

Silva trained under Ancelotti at Milan for six months in 2009 when he was not registered as their player and the duo thereafter worked together at Les Parisiens during the 2012/2013 campaign.

Arsenal are another club who could convince him to join with the influence of compatriot David Luiz. Luiz and Silva have shared the playing field for both Brazil and Paris Saint-Germain.

Silva currently earns a salary of around £240,000-a-week at Les Parisiens and he would surely have to take a pay-cut to join any of the interested clubs at the end of the campaign.
